Example School Website:
I looked back onto my old high school website to see how they organized the website. Since I live in Brevard County, my school was affiliated with Brevard Schools in whole, so major policies such as masks were directed based on Brevard Schools rules rather than individual school. However, the website was organized well for student use and parent use for any information needed on school policies and so forth. Examples are access to bell schedule, guidance counselors, school supply lists, etc. Plus, any questions not found on the site they provide contact information for every department. Only downside there is no access to specific class pages (that requires a log in).
Your Future Website as a Teacher:
For my own class I do plan to make use of sources such as History Channel, National Geographic, and any other outside sources to engage my students on topics that can be applied in real world scenario. I will have my own web page, whether it is through the school or something I create on my own so that is can be accessed by my students and their parents for any material or questions they have. I will keep it updated weekly so both the parents and students can be updated on how the timeline of the school year will go. I guess you can say it would be similar to how Canvas is functioned. I like the format of Canvas. I have used Blackboard before and found that format to be difficult to go through and locate certain aspects, in other words it was madly confusing.
In all honesty, material taught in a classroom can be tough to engage in, so I do plan to use current 'trends' or platforms to have my students engage and learn material in a way that is relevant to their generation.
Experience with PBWorks:
Honestly, I did not enjoy it that much. Yet, I also did not work much on it so maybe I just did not understand how to work the material. It has helped in a way to give ideas in how to set up my own website and organize it that can fit the topic I teach. Another downside is that in the group project we did, only one person can edit a page at a time. I did not like having to wait till my classmate finished with their work until I can access it. Overall though, it was a decent website idea for what needs to be down and it can be used for teaching purposes.
